Math Circle: A Typical Session Overview
Our circles meet weekly for up to two hour sessions. Every session is divided into two
parts. First part is devoted to either learning a new theoretical topic, or to some kind of math
competition or game. Second part is devoted to problem-solving. Students are given
a set of problems that are related to recently explained
material.
During the next hour students attempt to solve the problems and answer them
one-to-one to one of the available teachers.
Unsolved problems constitute a home assignment for the next
class. The solutions to these problems are discussed at the end
of next class.
Since most of the problems require strict logical reasoning, the
one-to-one talk with a teacher is very important part of a Math
Circle education.
